It is estimated that between 85% to 90% of halitosis or bad breath is to the bacteria that live in the mouth. Bacteria consume food left in the mouth and excrete waste, some of which are sulfur compounds. These compounds are called volatile sulfur compounds dentists tend to cause bad breath.
